Black Cod with Rhubarb Salsa from Cook Local

<a target="_blank" href="http://www.cooklocal.com/?p=2853 "target="_blank"> Rhubarb season is here for many of you, and *this close* here. Cook Local’s savory preparation in salsa form looks like oodles of fun.

Spanish Frittata from A Mingling of Tastes

Ever since I lived in Spain, I’ve wanted to made an authentic tortilla de patatas. According to every authentic recipe I’ve read, it’s a finicky, thus daunting, task. This recipe from A Mingling of Tastes puts the essence of tortilla in frittata form, adding some feta and peppers, and has way easier preparation. I want to make this.

Spring 2010 Bento Contest: The Winners! from Just Bento

Bento, or artistic Japanese packed lunches, are my ultimate culinary aspiration. Seriously. I don’t want to make a perfect béchamel or develop a whole wheat sourdough levain that doesn’t cause sinus infections to flare up and eat my face from the inside.

I just want to make a Joss Whedon bento. Just once.

He gets on these kicks of fixation on one ingredient, and then over the course of a few weeks suddenly he’s made twenty recipes with it, and all somehow manage to seem accessible. Here he’s rounded up, well, the title is all, his top 10 grilled cheese sandwiches.

Alert: Child Nutrition Month! from Zomppa

Zomppa has a great piece on Child Nutrition Month, with links to how we regular folks can help with childhood hunger and obesity, including BabyBites’ alarming one-year old Happy Meal that didn’t decompose one bit — it looks good as new.

reese’s peanut butter bars from Wicked Noodle

Don’t be dangling awesomely evil peanut butter bars in front of a peanut freak, girlfriend.

Welcome to the inauguration of recipes that make me squee: the coolest food stuff I’ve found on the interwebs this week. I love reading what other folks are up to, and I try to pick out my very favorites — narrowing it down is hard, I’ve discovered — and share them.

Hey, featured sites: Please let me know if you’d like me to feature a credited photo from your post that I’ve mentioned, and I’ll add it in. I was too lazy/busy (take your pick) to think of checking earlier. But a pic would make these mentions look nice.

Black pepper ice cream from Sassy Radish

I was excited to discover, in the kohlrabi and apple salad posted earlier this week, how black pepper made the flavor of the apple pop. Olga discovered that black pepper also makes vanilla sing, and writes a wonderful memoir of her first time trying peppercorn-tinged vanilla ice cream in Nice, France.

Pickles from Lottie + Doof

Notable for utterly gorgeous photography in which pickle jars evoke undersea wonders, with dill floating like seaweed and the pickles, garlic, and peppers hover in the briny deep.

Peanut Butter Chocolate Pie from Simply Gluten-Free

Think of all the decadent ingredients you love. Do they include peanuts, chocolate chips, butter, whipped cream, peanut butter, vanilla, sugar, chocolate bars, and, oh, eggs? Definitely not dairy-free but certainly gluten-free, this recipe is one of those over-the-top ultimate desserts for taking to potlucks and parties.

Soaked whole wheat, orange cranberry crème fraîche scones from A little bit of Spain in Iowa

I love scones and I love whole wheat baking. And I keep wanting to try out crème fraîche. Plus I’m glad Diana showed me which accents go where in crème fraîche.

Get Rich Slowly Visits the Island of Misfit Foods

As the name suggests, Get Rich Slowly isn’t a recipe blog, nor is it a food blog per se. J.D. does do a really neat garden cost tally every year though. He literally weighs every ounce. In this guest post, Karawynn visits a grocery outlet, where misfit and expired/near-expired foodstuffs go to either die or be sold at huge, huge discount. She finds a surprising amount of organic items, some decent produce, and a $3.99 Riesling that turns out to be so good that she returns to buy every bottle.
