When I went to the Asian market, the proprietor told me I was insane for wanting to make my own pickled ginger. :D

What a wonderful site! I'm really glad to see someone else making sushi with brown rice. I have a recipe on my blog for sushi made with brown rice and it's a crowd pleaser. I get better at rolling each time I make it. When I first visited the local Asian market by my house to purchase the ingredients for my first attempt at sushi and told them that I would be using brown rice, they replied "It won't work". I'm happy to say that it worked great! My boyfriend is a big fan of sushi and it was his idea to make it at home using brown rice. We both really enjoy sushi night at home now.

Love the 'traveling sushi sisterhood' concept. Fun post. Looks like you did a good job for the first time despite the electrical problems.
